About the Artist
Genesis Montero

Genesis Montero is a Dominican-American painter born in New York City and raised along the East Coast, with roots in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and the Dominican Republic. Her upbringing, shaped by movement, cultural duality, and personal reinvention, plays a central role in her work today.
She was introduced to painting at a young age through her father, a classically trained artist who studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in the 1980s. His influence sparked her own creative path, which she later refined through formal training at The Art Students League of New York.
Working primarily in oil on canvas, Montero creates bold, emotionally charged paintings that draw from personal memory, identity, and the tensions of contemporary life. Her work balances tradition with experimentation, often challenging cultural norms while honoring the technical roots of fine art.
Through her practice, Montero seeks to create work that resonates across time and place: visually striking, emotionally honest, and deeply human. She is currently based in the NJ/NYC area, where she continues to grow her body of work and contribute to the evolving landscape of 21st-century art.
